Expert Mode

Expert Mode is the advanced difficulty level in equ8. It unlocks after you complete all equations in Standard Mode and introduces parentheses for more complex solving strategies.

Features of Expert Mode

• Parentheses allowed. Use parentheses to create more complex equations and control order of operations.
• Advanced challenge. Requires deeper understanding of PEMDAS and mathematical operations.
• Higher scores. Complex equations with parentheses earn more points and boost your ranking.

Parentheses rules

Important rule: equations with parentheses are considered unique when removing the parentheses changes the outcome of the equation.

Example 1: Parentheses not required

The result of the equation (5 - 8) + (6 × 2) = 9 is the same without parentheses: 5 - 8 + 6 × 2 = 9

Example 2: Parentheses required

But if you remove the parentheses in this equation: 10 - 5 - (6 - 2) = 1 you get a different result: 10 - 5 - 6 - 2 = -3

This equation is considered unique because the parentheses change the outcome!
